Toyota Corona with Carina E engine model 4AFE - at certain speeds, in certain gears, at certain revs - the car mis fires and jumps, jerks a bit. I changed plugs - but only a little better. Toyota main dealers say it could take a couple of days to find out and then maybe not find out why? Is it HT leads? Is it injectors? Is it vacuum leak?

can you help please?

What are those certains? Why did you not post them so that we know what you are refering to?

You asked what are the certains?

Jumpiness when driving at speeds of 70 kph in 4th gear and at 90 kph in 5th gear.

The speeds, revs at which this generally occurs in different gears are shown below:

Gear Speed Kms per Hour
Speed Miles per hour
Revs Comments
3rd 55 35

4th 62 39 to 40 2,050
65 2100
70 2150
5th 90 to 95 to 100 56 to 58 to 60 2,400

5th 100 + 62 2,600 All OK

some people say it is a Ht lead problem, others say an injector - surely there must be a foolproof yes/no method of finding out?

Hi Tony Doheny,

If it is anything to do with spark plugs, lead, coils, injectors etc, the problem would not be so systematic.

I believe the EGR system is malfunctioning. Try disabling the system to test if the problem persists.
