Hello, Im currently looking at a used 2006 Toyota matrix AWD automatic. During the test drive I noticed that the rpm meter tends to get very high while acceleration stayed low. The sound the engine makes is consistent with the meter reading.

My friend suspects it might be a gear issue, just wondering what might be the issue and if it is serious. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Either the trans is slipping or not shifting. Have seller fix, or run away.
