Cranks no start issue after smoke came out of vents

Tried to start smoke came out of vents in car. Now will turn over but will not start.

How much smoke and what did it smell like? Can you hear the fuel pump in the tank prime for five seconds when the key is turned on without cranking the engine over? Here is a guide to help us get started:
