is it normal to here a grinding sound when shifting from four low back into four high?

Hi there,

There should be no noise when shifting from low to high ratio, that is if you are standing still. If you are trying to shift while moving even very slowly you stand the chance of doing some serious damage to your transfer box. This ratio shift is done by sliding a selector from the low ratio gear to the high ratio gear, there is no synchromesh involved, so any movement when selecting is bad news for your transfer.
