Hi,
My engine light came on a little while ago and the car got placed into limp mode where it is not allowed to rev above 2,000 rpm. I switched the vehicle off for an hour and when I switched it on the light did not come on again. Since then when I drive the car at about 60 to 70 mph and I press down on the accelerator it feels as if there is a momentary loss of power. Its almost like something is not firing correctly or the injectors does not work or there is no air in the engine. This lasts for about two to three minutes and then all is fine again and it drives normally. This happens all the time now and it has been suggested that it can be anything from the fact that the original error code has to be reset from the light came on the first time or that a sensor on the car is faulty or that the injectors needs to be cleaned, to air filters are dirty (I had them replaced in a full service from Toyota in February 2010). People has also suggested that I put in some additive to the diesel to see if that does not sort out the problem but I do not know if that works.
I am taking the car to Toyota to put it on the diagnostic on Friday but do not know if they will be able to see what the issue is as the engine light is no longer on. If you can guide me as to what I have to ask them to check or what can be wrong that would be greatly appreciated as I just want to be armed with some information as this issue is not making me trust the car and I need to drive long distances with it. Other than this momentary loss of power the car drives fine, the engine sounds good and it pulls fine. This is really frustrating. Any advice appreciated. If you need more information please let me know.

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation.

When the MIL came on there was a fault code logged in the ECU, although the light is off the code will still be in the memory, advise the dealer that the light did come on and they will do a scan and read this code. This may give enough information for them to track down the problem.
