1986 Toyota Landcruiser White smoke

I recently purchased this vehicle and did not notice any "white smoke" until after I drove a while. Now, it seems to smoke continuously. My friend says it is burning oil, I say coolant. Either way, is it automatically a cracked head, or maybe just a gasket? Do you recommend replacing gaskets, or replacing the entire head?

Hi Ironman1971,

If you have coolant losses and/or overheating issues, then it would be a gasket or head problem. The smoke would be completely white.
The cylinder head would have to be tested and if no cracks are found, refacing with valve seals replacement would be the sufficient to get it going.

If the smoke is grey, it is oil being burnt and can be due to bad valve seals.
