Steering Shaft Assembly Repair

Toyota Highlander 04 4wh drive 6cyl
Had steering shaft assembly replaced. Was told work only involved the sterring wheel and that an allignment was not needed. Is this true?
What exactly is involved in a sterring shaft assembly repair/replacement?

unless the person doing it is damn near perfect i would have an alignment done afterwards. also if its not put back on in the correct position the air bag cable in the steering wheel can break when the steering wheel is turned lock to lock.
