2009 Toyota corrolla s(manual). I was getting on the highway today and I was in second gear. going about 40 at 6 grand, and the car starts to red line at seven tops out around 8 grand, and right when then car got to 7 grand the tranny slipped right before I shifted. The check engine light came on and and was flashing. The car cohuld still drive but the fastest I could get back up to was 40 mph. when I sat there and idled it would fluxuate to almost almost zero rpms the back up to a grand. However After I turned the car off for like 5 mins. and then turned it back on the problem was fixed. any ideas?

When exceding redline you take the chance of valve spring colapse.

I would keep an eye on it but shift below redline, as all Toyota's have a rev limiter.
