Smells problem
2007 Toyota Corolla 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 25K miles
Smell from the outside (fumes, smog, etc.) Leaks into the car, especially when it's trailing a big bus or truck that exhausts fumes. What's wrong?

Well when you have the vents open, whether it on a/c, defrost, heat, vent. Etc. It will pull in whatever is outside the car, because the fresh air vents pulls the fresh air from outside, now when it is in recirculation mode, that is supposed to block the fresh air from coming in, and just refresh what air is in the interior already by sending it through the cabin air filter.

Thanks for the prompt reply. But the vents in my car are usually off/closed. I don't open them. Still, the air from the outside seeps into the car.

Then there is a leak, overtime, some of the mixing doors dont seal as well, or close all the way, this is something that will need to be inspected and replace or resealed. Which means the dash needs to come off in order to access the vents and doors, which allow air to enter.
