Transmission problem
2004 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

My manual transmission is stuck in gear and the shifter is loose. I don't know how else to explain it, the shifter has no gear pattern and just floats around. What can be wrong? Is it something I can fix myself? I am very handy with repairs, just never worked on a toyota manual shift.

First check the shift cable to trans, have someone shift the trans while you look at the cable. Look for loose brackets, cable binding etc.
If OK, then you will have to remove the shifter console and inspect the shifter mechanisim, something has probably worked loose or broke.
