I'll will like to know the cause of the faults and the possible solution or repair

Missing and backfiring would be a timing issue, generally the cam/crank sensor.

These should set the check engine light on?

Other possibilities are Mass Air Flow, or just bad plugs.

If plugs are original, start by changing them.
