I recently had scanned car when eng light came on;
indicated ineffecient cat-conv; other then poor gas miileage; how can i determine for sure if cat-conv is bad and needs replacing? Whenever it rains and i go thru puddles the car looses power; is this because of cat-conv or O2 sensor? Can you help me Rob

The problem could be the downstream O2 sensor. You can check the CAT, by having a backpressure test performed.
This is done by removing the downstream O2 sensor, and screwing in a test gauge which will measure backpressure, if high the CAT is clogged or partially clogged. If not, then the downstream O2 sensor needs to be replaced.

Thanks for answering my question; I had downstream 02 sensor replaced by Meinike in Nov;
it cost me $200; supposedly they did back pressure chek and said convertor is ok; and the car runs the same; felt i have been ripped off. Should the
upstream 02 sensor be change as welll? Rob

Upstream measures air/fuel ratio. Downstream measures CAT effeciency. Have your mechanic test both befor you replace them.
