2001 Toyota Corolla Lean fuel mixture

2001 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Automatic 120000 miles

In order to pull out the gas pedal must be slightly pressed. If I give it a normal amount of pedal pressure the engine will cut out.
Any ideas?
