My car has about an eighth of free play in steering, it was probably due to an accident a year and a half ago. we did not drive the car and it sat for six months. I took it in to get the free play checked out, brakes and suspension. All they recommended me to get done was the front brakes and the rear brakes adjusted. The accident ripped the driver side front fender, headlamp and bent door. The wheel was slightly bent. There is a slight pull to the left loud noise at highway engine speeds. under foot

Take it to an alignment shop and have them inspect the tie rods, control arm, ball joints and subframe.
