Hi,

I have a 2000 toyota corolla LE 4 cyl. There is a knocking sound whenever the vehicle is started and run for a couple miles. This knocking goes away eventually.
But when the engine is restarted, even if it is warm/hot, the knocking again comes for a few miles.

How to fix this problem? Any pointer or help is appreciated. Atleast throw some light on the problem area.

Thanks
Himanshu

Sounds like a lifter leakdown problem -when it pumps up the noise goes away

If it was a main/rod bearing, it would not go away.

Possible lifter, but I would also check the accy. Drive, like the tensioner.

On cold engine, remove belt(s) and start engine for a minute, if no noise, then a belt driven accy. Is problem.
