2000 Toyota Corolla deep roar when you accelerate

I am getting a deep roar for a few seconds when you accelerate from the stopped position. I was able to get this noise by holding the brake and accelerate to the right RPM, I can not duplicate this noise in neutral or park. I also do not get this noise while driving other than accelerating from the stopped position. It makes no differance on how hard you hit the gas it will make this noise. The noise is in the front of the car, but when i pop the hood and have someone hold the brake and hit the gas it sounds like it is everywhere around the motor. It does seem a little louder on the left side the pully side. Can you help me
