Felt a sensation like a flat tire in the steering wheel and thought a belt was broken on driver's side front tire.
today, after driving 20 min. That wheel was hot, very hot and I smelled, what I think is brakes. Also noticed black particles around the rim. (The front brakes were repaired 4 months ago).
i made an appointment to have this looked at, but I live in the 'boonies' and have to drive an hour to get there.
because of the heat, I am thinking my problem may be more than a broken belt.
i am a bit nervous driving that distance not knowing the actual problem. Can you shed some light on the subject, and do you think I can make it to the repair shop safely? Thanks for your help.

If you can try this:

Raise car, put on stands. Grasp tire and push/pull both horizontally and vertically, if any movement then possible wheel bearing, ball joint, tie rod, control arm bushing.

Check CV boots for any signs of leakage or cuts/rips in rubber boot.

This problem could be a bearing issue, or siezed caliper.

It is possible that the problem will cause you to get stranded on the way to get the repairs.

Check around your neighborhood, see if any mechanics are close
