1999 Toyota Corolla Transmission problems

My husband replaced the driver side axel and the car started to make a humming sound when driving the car,then the transmission stoped pulling.Seems like the cars trans will pull for little while then it stops pulling..What could be the problem???Also will a 99 camery transmission fit a 99 corolla? thanks

Check differential fluid level in trans.

Look at transmission pan drain plug, if there is another drain plug directly behind it, then the differential fluid level is low/out as a result of axle change.
