Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Toyota Corolla All Wheel Drive Automatic 177000 miles

1999 Toyota Corolla 166,000 miles .
3 months I had a brand new transmission put in, along with last summer a new
Catalytic converter.
My first brand new car had the oil changed every 3000 miles or so.

My question is that know the piston rings are linking….there thinking internal (what ever that means) I did have an oil compression test….in 1000 miles it used more than one quart of oil.
So my questions is it time to buy or new car or fix this one, then also if I do not fix it and just drive it what other damage could it do to the car?

If you have bad rings, from the results of a compression test, there is not much you can do other than have them replaced.

You may look into a used engine, generally far more cost effective than replacing with a reman'd unit.

Just make sure it is not a head gasket problem. Have a cooling system/leak down test performed to rule out head gasket.
