Does the '97 Corolla have an electric fuel pump in the gas tank that may have overheated/failed when the tank way dry? Does it have a fuse that it might have blown that can be replaced?

Check the fuel pressure -could be the fuel filter/in tank fuel strainer/fuel pump.
