My 1995 Toyota Corolla gave me problems with dieing and not starting. Sometimes it would work when cold and run fine until it warmed up. I found that the coil had a crack and burn spot on the top by the high tension pole. I swapped the coil with a new one and it now starts right up.

However, now it is bucking hard under acceleration, it idle's perfect and if I accelerate hard it does not buck, only under light to moderate acceleration

I took it for a 25 mile drive and other than the bucking it ran great. If I keep the rpm's up it does not buck.

With the old coil it ran fine cold and did not buck but would fail when warm. With the new coil it bucks even when cold.

It sure seems that maybe I got a defective coil. The computer has a code 71 which is EGR temp sensor but that has been on forever and I don't think it is related.

No doubt the bucking could be caused by several things but it seems odd that it started with the coil swap.

Oh and I changed the cap and wires with an old set I had with no change.

What are the odds I got a bad new coil?

For a start best clean out the EGR valve it can cause that problem and see what happens to include the TPS and airflow meter

Changed spark plugs, not fixed, changed rotor, not fixed, put some JB Weld on the crack in the old coil, installed it runs perfect now!

Taking the new coil back tomorrow.
