When I start the vehicle there is a sucking sound that lasts for about two-three seconds. I have had the car for 11 years and it has never made this sound. It doesn't matter whether the engine is hot or cold. I am trying to troubleshoot the problem, and am unsure if I should have the starter checked, or should look to an intake valve, or something else. Any suggestions?

Check oil filler cap, PCV valve and all vacuum lines, including the brake booster line.

Also inspect the intake hose to TB and air filter.

A valve/shim problem would not normally go away.

Check intake manifold bolts also, make sure they are torqued properly and not loose.
