Drive Train Axles Bearings problem

I have a '95 Corolla 5 spd. Have recently replaced the CV axles, now the differential is leaking gear lube. Looks like the driver side oil seal is leaking - how tough are these to replace?

thanks,
Doug

You will have to pull axle. Use a screwdriver or seal puller to remove old seal.

Install new seal with a large socket the diameter of the outside of the seal.

BE CAREFULL about the "garter spring" inside the seal, if it falls off or gets kinked, the seal will leak.

This is a followup to my question. I am fairly certain the oil seal is installed from the *inside* of the differential case, not the outside. So the differential housing will have to be split to access this area, which means pulling the transmission.

Thanks,
Doug

I have done many axle seals on Toyota's (all automatics) and would find it very hard to believe you would have to install seal from inside.

This is manual seal.
