I have a 1995 Toyota Corolla station wagon with 277,000 miles. I need to have the front ball joints replaced. How much should I expect to be charged for this type of repair?

It really depends on the quality of the parts and where you go. Prices can dramatically fluctuate, but usually there is good reason behind it.

I would guess around $260-300 USD plus tax and alignment.

I just asked my mechanic about replacing ball joints, cv boots, etc. Suggested the simpler way is to change the whole axle. They are sold rebuilt at your local car parts store. 8)

The Ball joint and axles are two separate animials. The cv boot and the cv joint however are part of the axle, in which cas repling the axle over the boot or cv joint would be sensible.
