Engine Performance problem
1994 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Automatic 170,00 miles

I have a 1994 Toyota corolla that idles rough and even stalls out when you stop. When the throttle position sensor is disconnected it runs perfect. But the engine light is on when it is disconnected but not when it is connected. Will disconnecting the sensor and driving it with the engine light on damage my car. Also does this mean that i need to have the sensor replaced or could it be something else.
Thanks,
Susie
