1994 Toyota Corolla Slipping?

It only does it from time to time but it's annoying! It will slip out of gear like its in neutral, if you take your foot off the gas it will go back in and it keeps doing it til it works itself out? The speedometer jumps up and down when it does this also. The guy I purchased the car from said I could probably get it flushed and it would fix it but i dont want to have to pay for it and it not be the problem. I was thinking that or a bad shift solenoid or a speed sensor?

I would check the cable connection to the trans. It may be out of adjustment.

Also check fluid level in trans with engine running.
