Lately everytime I try to accelerate on the interstate my car bucks/jerks and my engine lights come on. I only know a little about cars. I thought maybe the belt is slipping but not sure. I am curious to know the possibilities of what's wrong and how long it usually takes a mechanic to fix. I just started a new job and I need to get back and forth to work for four more days before I can get it fixed.

Since this is an OBDI car you will have to short Te1 (or T1) and E1 of the diagnostic port. The check engine light will flash the error codes.

Get the codes and let us know what they are.

Most likely a sensor is bad and needs to be replaced.

Some shops can read OBDI codes with a scanner, so that is another option. Just call them first and tell them it is a 1994 model equipped with an OBDI ECM.

If you intend to work on the car yourself, invest in a repair manual.
