1990 Toyota Corolla

What are the disadvantages of setting the idle speed above the recommended rpm, let's say recommended rpm is 800rpm, and then I set it to 1000rpm.

Am I damaging the engine or am I just wasting gas?

What are the advantages on the other hand?

The engine is a carb engine.

Thanks!

why would it run leaner?

and if i set my idle at best torque @ partial throttle, then i sometimes drive it at wide open throttle, will that damage the engine?

when you step on the gas, increasing the rpm will make the engine run leaner or richer?

thanks!

If you let more air in it will lean mixture, the older cars with a one wire sensor can compensate to some degree, but it takes them much longer.

If an auto, you are putting an addition strain on bands and clutches.
