Engine Mechanical problem
1990 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 87, 8OO miles

my friend worked on my car. He drained the trans fluid instead of the oil and put another 5 quarts in to the engine, which caused it to run funny I drove home and was being followed by clouds of smoke coming out of the muffler. Problem now is I have a problem starting it when I turn it on after a minute it starts revving up by itself therefore increasing and decreasing rpm speeds when I stop at a light this continues sometimes the car shuts off in the middle of the street! He also changed the spark plugs I drained the excess oil and added the neccesary trans fluid but now it turns off and revs itself please help!

PS

WOULD THE EXTRA OIL HAVE DAMAGED THE GAS LINE OR SHOULD I TRY REPLACING THE SPARK PLUGS?
THANK YOU I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME IN READING THIS AND YOUR USEFULL KNOWLEDGE

In addition to what BMRFIXIT said:

The engine holds about 3.5 quarts, so adding an additional 5 quarts probably caused the oil to be sucked into the engine through the PCV valve into the intake causing the clouds of smoke.

The MAP sensor and fuel pressure regulator are also connected to manifold vaccum, so they may be damaged. The burning oil could have contaminated the O2 sensor and converter.

I would change plugs and have the engine scanned with a scan tool (looking at live data) to see if any sensors are out of range.
