I Just did and engine swap the engines were identical with the exception of one component located on the head it is on the front of the motor I do not think it does anything but not sure. But anyhow the car will not start it is like the timing is off is will hit but when it does the whole engine jumps I am woundering did I miss something I have done tons of engine swaps but never this problem the old engine ran but had a rod out of it the new engine also ran when pulled (it is suppose to be a japan import engine) thank you for the help

Recheck the firing position of no.1 cyl TDC-now verify the rotor position with no1 cap tower

While cranking it over-do you have spark?

Where is this one component attach to? Kind of hard to be believe this engine is a DIS-but who knows.

Yes it has good sprark it does fire but when it does fire it sounds as though it is out of time. I checked both the cam sensor and crank sensor and they are both good. The one conponant in question is just below the valve cover on the left side of the engine it is about one inch in diamiter and about 3 inches long it prtrudes into the cylender head just under the cam it has like a screen on it it is not a sensor. Also when troubleshooting this I notices on the left cam where the chain is there is a large round device atached to the pully.

Okay have some more facts I did an engine swap and the engine they sent me was a 2000 which is equiped with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) I can not get this engine running and I think it is because of this system do you think I can just change out the timing gear on the intake cam from the old engine which will disable this system or should I thr and find a differant engine Is there anyway to dissable this system.

thank you
