My check engine light came on today. i know i need to replace my air filter could this be causing the light to come on??

The short answer is no. The engine light will come on when something controled by the ECU is faulty, The code will be held in the memory and can be retrieved by any service centre worth their salt. The code will tell the mechanic where to start looking for any faults
