I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT 1.8 liter 1FF engine with 132000 miles on it. I had to replace the catalytic converter at 55000 miles which was covered under warranty. Now their telling me the Cat is going and needs to be replaced again. The check engine light is on. No noticable performance difference, except maybe the gas mileage. Toyota wants $1000. All scheduled maintanence performed. Is there a known problem with Celica Cats. Also I found an aftermarket Cat for $330, which looks pretty easy to install. Is this a goos idea. PS the mileage on the car is all highway miles. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

Hey dude, I have a celica gts with a cat going bad and might be able to help you. First of all you need to check the emissions sticker under the hood it will most likely say you have a california emissions car. If this is the case no cat that is not 50 state and C.A.R.B. Certified will give you a light. Even if you get a 50 state legal universal cat it appears to be next to impossible to weld one into the midpipe due to proximitey of front O2 sensor to the cat making it almost impossible to sleeve or weld at that spot. This is where I am currently at with my car and I have basically decided to buy the whole midpipe(50 state legal) and just pop it into place. Toyota wants 1300 hundred for their midpipe and I have found one from benchmark for about 450(supposedly 50 state) and now trying to decide what to do

DECTOY93289 is the part number google it and good luck
