Gas gauge does not work, but low fuel light comes on when it's low. What's wrong and how do I fix it?

To check the gauge disconnect the sender wire at the fuel tank and earth, with the ignition on the gauge should deflect to full, if not a problem is in the loom or the gauge if it dose deflect the problem is in the sender unit.
