About a month ago, we had to replace the fan switch because the fans weren't turning on...it was fine. Until two days ago. The car started overheating again and we noticed the fans weren't turning on again. So...knowing that we'd already dealt with this, we decided to tow it to a shop so they could look at the fan relays, etc.

This morning they called to say it was the radiator cap. This didn't make sense to me. Why would that make the fans not work. When I explained that the fans weren't working, they said they worked for them.

So...three hours later, they call to tell me that it only overheats going uphill. "This is a sign of a leaking head gasket." or so they say. My response was to question why there wasn't water in the oil if the head gasket was leaking. They said it might be a really small leak and not noticeable...or the head might be cracked. oh, and they want $1900 to change or replace the head.

This doesn't feel right to me. Does it smell right to you?
