I have a 1989 Celica GT and im pretty sure the clutch is going. When I give it to much gas, the RPM's go up, but the speed of acceleration dosent match the RPM's. Usually only happens when im going up hills or give it to much gas driving around. So im fairly confident its the clutch plate inside the transmission. The clutch feels fine and dosnt grind and shifts easily however. Basically my question is, how difficult would this be to fix myself? I realize I would be working under the car, but I really have no idea what I would be getting myself into, and if it would be possible to get done in a day or so with mild car smarts.

Thanks!

Hi there,

This is not that hard but doing it at home on stands on your back will be a real pain, lifting the transmission out and re fitting it will be difficultt, also you must get the flywheel machined as if you don't you may end up with clutch shudder, thi you don't want, so be aware that this will take a mechanic around 4-5 Hrs with a full work shop so at home I don't think a day will cove it.
