Options for replacing an engine

I have a Toyota Camry 2000 with about 53K and a 1.4L engine. During a recent snowstorm in our area, I revved the engine quite a bit while trying to go up an icy slope. This resulted in a loud bang, with some smoke, and now my car has a major clanking sound when I start it. I didn't attempt to drive it after that, but when I had it towed to a Toyota dealer for diagnosis, they told me my engine was gone and I'd need to replace my engine block.

They quoted me $6100 for a new Toyota engine block, and about $4500 for a replacement block that had 93K.

Any options on what I should do?

Thanks

Contact a local import junk yard and give them your engine code, see what they have. You can also buy JDM (Japanese) engines off ebay.
I bought one for a 1991 Corolla and installed it in a weekend, runs great. Cost me $324.00 + $150.00 shipping.
You can also contact a local garage and see if they will source an engine for you and install it, should run you $1,000-2000.

Not sure if this is your engine. These engines would require that you use the existing intake, exhaust and accessories from your engine.

Go for a low mileage used engine, but insist on pulling the valve cover to make sure the engine isn't sludged.
