Exhaust problem 91 toy. Camry

When I or my wife drive her 91 Toy Camry (115K miles), we reek of exhaust fumes. It passes all exhaust inspections, and no CO is found in the passenger compartment. No exhaust leaks could be detected and when I am driving, I really don't smell the exhaust. It is only evident when I come back to smell the clothes I was wearing or my spouse smells the car fumes on me. The flex pipe on the exhaust was replaced but that did not fix the problem. It uses oil. About 1 qt every 500 or 600 miles city driving. The engine is clean. I reek worse when I have the windows open or use the A/C or heat. When I have the windows up with no A/C or heat running, it isn't as bad. Not sure where to look next. I noticed that when I was idling in traffic for about 20 minutes one day, my car spewed blue/black smoke for about 1/2 mile when traffic started moving and then it disappeared. The engine doesn't seem like it is expelling the fumes or something. Any ideas? I don't want my 1 year old riding in the car cause I don't know how dangerous it is. Thanks for any tips.

IF you smell it in the car then you have an exhaust leaking from a hole in the exhaiust or bing suscked back inside by the vacuum geberated by the rear area of the car. Smoke when you fist drive is NOT a good sign.

Look at your tail pipe. It must be extended at least 4 inches beyond any obstructions and not installed close to the car. This could be your problem. Buy a short exhaust extension and try it. It may solve your problem.

Good luck
