On 2000 Toyota Camry 4 cyl 2.2 w/ 185K miles Auto the trans will not shift out of Park and the brake lights won't come on. Is it the brake light switch or the Neutral safety switch? Dealer said it's probably one or the other.

Could be a shift interlock solenoid problem

It could be either of them, power goes from the fuse box to the brake light switch, when you put the brake on it sends current to the shift lock ect that is located below the console. With the current going to the ecj from the brake light switch it then opens the shift control so the car can be shifted. Has anyone checked the fuses? The only way to find out they have to be checked
