There is a thumping noise that sounds similar to a flat tire coming from the left rear side of my 2007 Camry. I hear it a low speeds or while coasting. Alignment, brakes and steering all appear to be fine, what could be the problem?

It could be a few things. First, make sure the tire doesn't have a shifted belt. Also, make sure the tire tread is worn evenly and there are no flat spots. Finally, you may have to check the wheel bearings to make sure the are ok.

Let me know what you find with the tire. If you see nothing wrong with it, rotate it to the front to see if the noise changes location. If it does, the tire is the problem. If there is no change, then the wheel bearing is the next target.

I'm glad you found the problem. I hate to say it, but pay attention when you purchase tires. Many are coming from other countries such as China. The tires are inexpensive, but don't hold up. Also, even the american brand tires in some cases are outsourced to other countries. It upsets me because I have 2 young boys that I would like to see have jobs someday.

Here is a laugh for you. My brother is (unlike me) wealthy. He drives a 80K dollar Audi A8. He purchased cheap (new) tires on the vehicle. Good ones were around 1200.00 or the cheap ones from the internet were 600.00 with wheels. He got the cheap ones. Now, they have about 1K on them. They sound like agressive snow tires. They are the cheapest, poorest design tires I have ever seen. They actually cause things to vibrate in the car, not from a balance problem, but rather design.

Keep that in mind the next time you get them. You can get bad ones from the US too, but we still build good things in this country.

Take care and nice talking with you. Thanks for using 2carpros. Com
