2006 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic
I got my car brand new in December 2005 and haven't done any major repairs to my car until recently.
I had to get new brake pads the other day and the mechanic suggested that I get new struts for the rear. He estimated that the price for the parts would be $175 each, or $350 in total for just parts. With labor, I believe it would be over $500 and maybe close to $600. Does this sound right to just get 2 struts for the rear?
I fear he might be overcharging me or maybe he's using very good high quality parts. For example, when he installed new front brakes ($65.69) and 2 new rotors ($102.96), the cost of parts came out to about $168.65. His labor cost was $106.35. My total was $289.76.
My roommate said that sounded too expensive because she took her car to the dealership (which is usually extremely overpriced) to get replace all 4 brake pads and 4 rotors and the total came to $200. She said since I was only doing half, it should have been half the price.
What is a reasonable amount to pay for parts and labor to replace rear struts?
