I've been sharing my car with my teenage son for about 6 months. I took it in for an oil change today and the garage called me to say that the brakes were worn down to the metal and the power steering fluid was nearly empty. They recommended a flush and replacement of the fluid.
I'm not too surprised about the brakes but the fluid? I recently had the timing belt replaced by someone else in addition to water pump seals which the dealer recommended because it's expensive to do that separately. The car runs fine but what do you think caused my fluid to run out that way? Can I check the fluid myself and how often? How long is the ps fluid supposed to last under normal driving conditions?
