My car has been making a grinding noise for a couple weeks now, but it stops when I got over a certain MPH. What is wrong with the car?

Could be your transmission or ball joints. Does it make noise when turning?

It basically makes the noise only from 40 mph below, when I get above 40, it stops. Before it used to stay on the entire time driving. It's recently stoppped but I don't know for how long. Should it be the timing belt of to get a new engine? The car has over 200,000 miles, and the engine has not been changed once.

It could be a number of things. Does it happen when turning? Where does the noise seem to come from? Does acceleration or deceleration seem to affect it?
