2003 Camry intake manifold?

I have a '03 camry and when it idles it makes a knocking pinging sound, I had an oil change and they said it was the intake manifold gasket and it would cost a grand to fix. Only less than 50,000 miles, this sounds a bit strange to me. Any ideas?

This is a common camry 2.4 liter engine problem. Its actually not the gasket its the intake itself. Toyota has an updated intake for this car. And as for the price a grand is way out of line. Iirc the new intake is about $350 and it takes about 4 hours to replace. The new intake comes with gaskets attached so don't let anyone sell you gaskets when getting the intake replaced.
