2002 Toyota Camry Water Pump Leakage?

Is there a definitive way of telling if the water pump on this vehicle is leaking?

There are no puddles on the garage floor nor stains from coolant but a Toyota mechanic has stated that the water pump is leaking and has a quarter-size hole in it.

If the leak cannot be seen, how can the leak be proven?

there was probably a mis-communication between the 2 of you.

there is probably a 1/4" hole in the bottom of the water pump. Generally called the "weep hole".
When a water pump is in the early stages of failing, a slight amount of seepage will appear at the weep hole, but not enough to start dripping.

If you see any dampness there, then you are on borrowed time.

you're very welcome.

you may want to discuss with your mechanic about changing all the belts, including the timing belt and cam seals (if you car has one) at the same time the work is done on the water pump.

a lot of the time it's the same amount of labor (or not much more), and you simply have to pay for the new parts.
