2002 Toyota Camry A/C button flashes

The A/C button flashes when you turn it on and the clutch does not engauge on the compressor in past years I would add freon,(134a), but now it will not take any and the cheesey gauge on the can says it's in the red and has a problem other than low freon.
Suggesestions?
