The camry weaves from side to side like there is slack in the steering. The Toyota dealer said the rack and pinion was bad and replaced it but did not solve problem. Two other mechanics have driven it with one checking the toe-in but neither have a clue. I asked if it could be shock or strut related and only received hunched shoulders but one did say that it might be the power steering pump. You are costantly having to move the wheel back and forth to hold the car in the road.

Hi Verystumped,

Have the lower arm bushes and ball joints checked. Any wear or slack would cause the castor and camber to go out resulting in unstable steering.

Side slip testing and adjustment with toe-in/out would not solve the probelm.

While changing the rack, hope they had replaced the steering cushions and ensure proper steering box free play adjustment.
