2001 Toyota Camry Knocking Noise

MY 2001 CAmry has been making a knocking noise. IT seems that it is coming from under the hood towards the upper left hand side. It doesn't seem to affect anything, just an annoying noise that comes and goes. Any thoughts?

does it go faster when the car goes faster? like as you press the gas to accelerate, does the sound go faster too?

Not really. I haven't noticed an increase in the speed of the sound as I accelerate.

so see if you notice it while increasing speed, is happening while moving or staying still or both

I will check it out when its moving. However, it does do it when the car is stationary and moving

then mostlikely the it will change with speed , but just to be sure, next time you get in the car check.

yes, a lifter or pushrod, or even and bent valve
