My car had the CHECK ENGINE light on. The OBD II diagnosis showed code P 0401 which was interpreted as EGR Valve malfunction. On my mechanic's advice the spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter and EGR valve ( this was purchased from the Dealer) were changed. The light went off for a week and returned. Now the mechanic says I have to go to the Dealer to pin point the defect and repair. Your advice please.

Hi there,

First check the code, if it is the same as the last set code, there is still a problem in the system. The dealer will have a more detailed flow chart check to help pinpont this fault, your mechanic should at least do a code read an inspection just in case he has missed something.
