Both reverse lights do not work but all other lights and gauge lights work. Is there a fuse that only controls the reverse lights and where is it located? If not a fuse, then what next?

Check out 10-amp fuse labeled "GAUGE" in instrument panel junction box. If fuse is OK, suspect faulty back-up light switch (located on the transaxle). Here are diagrams to help you see how to replace the reverse light switch or gear range sensor (same thing) Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I am trying to hookup a rear backup camera. I tied into the backup lights to power the camera and it works fine on my radio lcd screen when I manually go to the camera screen. However, I would like to cause the screen to switch automatically when I put the car into reverse. To do this I need to hook up the radio's "reverse" wire to the backup light power as well. I don't want to run another 15 feet of wire to the trunk to pickup this line. Is this wire available anywhere UNDER the dash or near the FUSE panel? I've searched the internet for camry wiring diagrams and gave up. Thank you for your help.

You can go to the neutral safety switch on the transmission. From there, the wire goes to a joint connector on the right side of the dash, then another joint connector left of the steering column. From there it runs to the back-up lights. That wire is red / black. Sorry that I don't have a drawing that shows those connectors.

Hey TONYMO123,

Check the system fuses first. Tail lights and plate light are on the same circuit and fuses so if the tail lights on then you need to check bulbs and socket and wiring as for the reverse switch.

Here is a guide and a diagram that will help you test the system and get the problem fixed.

Please let us know happens so it will help others.

This is my wife's car so I do not know how long they have been out. 4cly, 5spd stick 40,000 miles original owner. All lights work except for the reverse lights - bulbs are not broken, cannot find a blown fuse but perhaps I am not looking in the correct place. Thanks for your help, M.E.

Hi there,

You may have a faulty switch on in the gearbox. Locate the switch on the gearbox, it will be the only switch on the box, disconnect the plug and check for 12V going into the switch (ignition on) no to test the circuit jump the wires at the switch (loom end) with a bit of wire, a bent split pin will do, and see if the lights are on, if yes then the switch is faulty, if no and you do have 12V at the plug then the loom has a fault and if you have no power at the plug with the ignition on you will have to check power supply.
