P0505 is the code I received from my OBD scanner. I've replaced the MAF sensor as well as cleaned the throttle body and the idle air control valve hole with carburetor cleaner. I've also checked to see if the IAC valve needs replacement, but according to my Haynes guide, it does not.

The engine acts up ONLY when the check engine light is on (which to me seems more like a computer or sensor problem). I can only accelerate very slowly or fast, the engine can never stay between about 1200-1800 rpm when the engine light is on. It occasionally goes off and the engine runs smoothly again.

I just cleaned the throttle body an hour ago and it was working fine for a little bit, idling at about 600-700 rpm. But after a few more ignitions, it went back to its high idling speed at about 1000 rpm and the check engine light came back on.
